Nicole Ji Soo Kim is an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto, Canada working through conceptual frameworks of grief, loss and their inevitable connections to time, presence and meaning. Her art education began at School of the Arts Institute of Chicago, before completing her BFA at Ontario College of Art and Design University in 2020. Kim’s first solo exhibition was presented at Franz Kaka (Toronto, CA). She has recently exhibited at Hawkins Headquarters (Atlanta, GA) Tala, Weatherproof (Chicago, IL), New York Art Residency and Studios Foundation (New York, US), Zalucky Contemporary, and the plumb (Toronto, CA). She has participated in the Roundtable Residency (Toronto, CA) and NARS Foundation International Residency (Brooklyn, US). She received a certificate of completion of the Grief Education program through OISE Continuing and Professional Learning at the University of Toronto.
Surabhi Ghosh is an artist and educator based in Montreal. She exploits the tensions and imperfections in handmade patterns to give material and spatial form to narratives of pride and shame. Her visual strategies for prompting active viewership involve inverting the central and the peripheral, interrupting architectural edges, and disrupting the functionality and familiarity of everyday materials. Mapping points of intersection between abstraction, minimalism, and ornamentation, Ghosh speculates on ways to “trouble” these and other(ed) entwined histories. Her discursive position is developed using unruly textiles, repetitive processes, and site-responsive installations.
Recent solo exhibitions have been at Patel Brown Gallery (Montreal), Maison des arts de Laval, Confederation Centre Art Gallery (Charlottetown), and Hawthor Contemporary (Milwaukee, WI). Recent duo and group exhibitions include projects at Susan Hobbs Gallery (Toronto), Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Gund Gallery (Gambier, OH), and Stewart Hall Art Gallery (Pointe-Claire, QC). Ghosh is Associate Professor of Fibres & Material Practices at Concordia University and is currently the Chair of the Department of Studio Arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
